Job Description:
In this role you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of energy by working on advanced, high-impact technologies that power the world more efficiently and sustainably. As a Sr. Controls Engineer for one of our largest energy customers, you’ll be part of a world-class engineering team tackling complex challenges at the forefront of grid modernization. This team supports high voltage equipment that help with the stability & transmission of power while improving grid reliability. This person will be part of building cutting-edge systems for STATCOMs, SVC’s, fixed series capacitors, and synchronous condensers—making a tangible impact on global energy infrastructure. These systems allow you to transmit more power over existing power lines (change load and use real/imaginary power through the use of capacitors and condensers). This is a great opportunity for a Controls Engineer looking to work with cutting edge equipment!

Requirements:
• 5+ years of controls and protection engineering experience (Hardware focused): Designing, building, wiring, testing, and commissioning controls systems (design heavy). Developing protection and control solutions including hardware specifications, logic diagrams, and schematics
• Controls experience within the Transmission or Distribution industries: Utility or energy companies including power, gas, hydro, wind, or solar. Experience with GE, ABB, Hitachi Energy, Siemens, Samsung, Mitsubishi, or other similar companies
• Strong experience designing and building power and utility control systems, such as: Distributed Control Systems (DCS), High-voltage protection systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), substation control systems, STATCOMs, synchronous condensers, capacitors, or other grid-connected equipment
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline

Nice to have:

Responsibilities:
• Design and deliver protection and control systems for transmission and distribution projects, including hardware specifications, logic diagrams, and schematics
• Lead controls engineering efforts from design through testing and commissioning for grid-connected and FACTS-based solutions
• Develop and execute RTDS test plans and support power system studies to ensure reliable grid integration
• Act as a technical point of contact for customers, project managers, and internal engineering teams
• Support proposal development by defining controls scope, estimating engineering effort, and coordinating with vendors
• Drive quality, cost optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
