Fiber Characterization (FC) Technical Lead

Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Remotely oversee and support multiple field teams who are conducting OTDR and EXFO fiber testing
• Join daily Zoom sessions with field techs to monitor test results in real-time
• Review OTDR traces and screenshots, validating fiber loss readings and identifying anomalies
• Provide direction and feedback to field techs on troubleshooting, reruns, or corrective actions
• Ensure all fiber testing meets specified loss and span parameters (≤15bd total loss, ~2bd per mile)
• Mentor and cross-train field teams to ensure consistent testing and reporting standards
• Document test outcomes and report findings to program leadership
• Collaborate with the program manager to ensure testing quality and efficiency across all teams
• Support onboarding and training for new field techs in the FC program

Requirements:
• 4+ years of experience in fiber optics, network testing, or telecom infrastructure
• Strong understanding of OTDR traces, fiber loss parameters, and testing workflows
• Deep understanding of EXFO devices and fiber characterization processes including the ability to confirm that the fiber loss (signal strength drop) is within normal limits, and spot any inconsistent patterns that might signal damage, bad splices, or dirty connectors
• Ability to remotely interpret and validate test data with accuracy
• Prior experience leading technical teams within a Fiber Characterization environment
• Excellent communication skills and proven ability to manage teams remotely using virtual collaboration tools like Zoom & Teams
• Must complete Ciena FC training and any required AT&T training modules
