Lead Project Technician

RALEIGH NC   Energy - Utilities - Gas - Electric Posted: 20 hours ago

Job Description:
Our client is looking to add a Lead Project Technician to support their North Carolina operation. You will be the go-to individual other technicians look to on a jobsite. In your day to day you will be leading HVAC equipment installations from the plans on the table to the final walkthrough: reading specifications, directing crews, holding quality to a higher bar, and making the calls that keep a job on schedule. If you’ve earned your stripes on the tools and you’re ready to lead instead of just execute, this is that next step.

Requirements:
• 5+ years of hands-on commercial HVAC installation experience.
• 3+ yeas experience independently leading an installation crew without direct supervision.
• Strong plan and specification reading experience regarding mechanical drawings, submittals, and sequence of operations.
• Working knowledge of relevant codes and manufacturer installation standards.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (site travel and company vehicle use required).
• Physical ability to lift equipment, work at heights, and perform installation work in varied site conditions.
• Valid driver’s license & ability to pass a background check
• EPA Universal Certification

Nice to have:
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience mentoring or formally training junior technicians.
• Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and controls integration.
• Manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Carrier, Trane, York, Daikin).

Responsibilities:
• Independently lead HVAC equipment installations from mobilization through final commissioning.
• Interpret plans, specifications, and submittals, and translate them into a clear installation plan for the crew.
• Coordinate jobsite activities across trades, schedules, and material deliveries to keep the project on track.
• Oversee installation quality and code compliance, catching issues before they become rework.
• Serve as the primary point of contact on-site for project status, field changes, and issue resolution.
• Mentor and direct less experienced technicians, setting the standard for workmanship and safety.
• Communicate progress, risks, and schedule impacts to the project manager and client stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate as-built documentation, material tracking, and daily job logs.
• Enforce jobsite safety protocols and ensure all crew members are following PPE and site-specific requirements.
