Sr. OpenShift Engineer

WASHINGTON DC   Government - Civil Service Posted: 1 day ago

Job Description:
In this role, you’ll join the team supporting on-prem & cloud Red Hat OpenShift container platforms that underpin critical NASA center operations, functioning as a sr. engineer in designing, documenting, implementing, and maintaining your own infrastructure decisions while collaborating with senior program and government stakeholders. This is a high-visibility role on a major, long-term program with active growth (multiple new cluster deployments already underway this year, with more expansion planned) – well suited to someone who can get ahead of shifting priorities and own their delivery timeline rather than wait to be told what’s next.

ABILITY TO OBTAIN PUBLIC TRUST CLEARANCE REQUIRED

Requirements:
• 8+ years’ experience administering Linux systems, with 5+ years engineering/designing Red Hat OpenShift in an enterprise environment
o Including both on-prem and Azure cloud environments
• Extensive Cluster lifecycle management experience – build-out, patching, upgrades, break/fix support, network, and security configuration
• Hands-on command-line and BASH scripting experience (Red Hat CoreOS, RHEL)
• Ability to document and report out to senior level management and Government stakeholders on progress, updates, & status
• B.S. Degree REQUIRED (proof must be obtained)
• Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance – investigative background check w/ fingerprinting REQUIRED

Nice to have:
• Red Hat OpenShift Administration/Engineering Certification
• Experience with Red Hat ACM (Advanced Cluster Management) – DevOps/IaC
• Experience with Red Hat ACS (Advanced Cluster Security)
• Familiarity with Traefik Enterprise and/or Redis technologies

Responsibilities:
• Own end-to-end OpenShift cluster architecture and engineering across on-prem and cloud environments — design, document, implement, and maintain independently
• Serve as the primary hands-on administrator for day-to-day cluster operations: patching, upgrades, break/fix support, and ongoing cluster expansion as new requests come in
• Work independently with minimal internal technical oversight, reporting delivery status directly to senior program and government leadership
• Manage cluster health, node management, application deployments, pods, services, and resource policies
• Implement and maintain PIV-related engineering requirements and cybersecurity controls for the platform
• Maintain working knowledge of Azure virtualization to support hybrid on-prem/cloud needs
• Use GitLab/GitHub for source control and delivery workflows
• Where applicable, support ACM-based cluster management and ACS-based cluster security operations
• Document architecture decisions thoroughly enough to defend them to government stakeholders and support future transitions
